Professional Organizations and Credentials

Association of Professional Genealogists (APG). The APG provides community and sets standards for the professional genealogical community. They have put forth a Code of Ethics to which those in our association adhere. We are proud to be associated with this organization.

National Genealogical Society (NGS). The NGS is a service organization whose goal is to lead and educate the national genealogical community. The NGS sponsors educational endeavors and helps it's constituency learn more about the genealogical research process.

Utah Genealogical Association (UGA). The UGA provides genealogical information, sources and education on worldwide topics through personal instruction and various published media.

Board for Certification of Genealogists, BCG® A certification, review and testing board for professional genealogists. Certification must be renewed every five (5) years. The BCG works independently of any other society or professional association.

American Society of Genealogists. This group was organized in 1940 and its purpose is to "foster the training of genealogists, eliminate improper and unethical practices, elevate the profession of genealogy to the same literary and scientific level enjoyed by history, ..." There are a maximum of 50 genealogists (FASG) in this group and they are chosen by their peers based upon quality and volume of their published material.

International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists. ICAPGen is an accreditation program designed to test an individual’s competence in genealogical research. Separate tests are given for geographical areas and subjects of specialization and successful applicants are awarded an AG service mark.
